Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2003 11:27:21 -1000 Letter from Rep. David Pendleton Subject: Aloha from Rep. Pendleton

Ken:

Great meeting you. I want you to know how big a fan I am. Your little book has had a big impact on my life. I read Hayek and von Mises in college, but your book came to my attention after my election in 1996. Several copies have been "stolen" from my legislative coffee table, so I'm not the only person appreciative of your perspective.

My experience here as a legislator has been mixed. Great victories have been few and far between. I have been treated as though my appreciation of and respect for market forces and free enterprise is weird. Here, nearly everyone, at least in the majority, feels that govt. knows best. We must legislate and regulate our way to prosperity. Taxation and litigation are the taxpayers friends. These are their beliefs. I have felt all alone. But your book has reminded me that I am part of a larger group of people who believe in free markets and the human creative spirit which is truly the only source of prosperity.

My son will be working through your book with me next year. That is on our father-son reading list. Keep in touch. Thanks for reminding me that I'm not alone. I've kept the faith because of your writing.
