JG DEBATE COMPETITIONS AT 12 UNIVERSITIES IN BURUNDI
Dear Professor Ken, I’m delighted to share some exciting news from Burundi! On behalf of the entire Resolution Connect team, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and encouragement. Your book, The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible, has been an incredible source of inspiration for our reading groups and young liberty champions. Your contribution is helping us nurture a new generation of students who think critically, embrace freedom, and are ready to make a difference in their communities. Thank you for being part of this journey!
I’m pleased to share the attached Phase 1 Narrative Report of The Liberty Debate Forum 2026, which captures the progress and impact we have achieved together so far. Here are a few highlights we’re especially proud of:
200 copies of The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible distributed, alongside free online access through our Urumuri Hub.
12 university reading groups engaged across three provinces: Bujumbura, Gitega, and Butanyerera.
150+ students actively reached.
Six teams advancing to the next stage, representing Bujumbura (3 teams), Gitega (2), and Butanyerera (1).
We’re excited about the momentum this first phase has created, and we look forward to taking these young champions even further!
A few exciting next steps
1. Building support for the Liberty Champions Camp
We are currently mobilizing additional resources for our Liberty Champions Camp, scheduled for January 2027. The camp will be an important opportunity to bring our most engaged students together, deepen their understanding of liberty, and strengthen their leadership and debating skills. If you know of individuals, foundations, or partner organizations that might be interested in supporting this initiative, we would be very grateful for any introductions or advice you could share.
3. Meeting our semi-finalists
In November, Elie and I will host online mentorship sessions for our qualified teams as they prepare for the next stage of the competition. It would be a real pleasure to have you join us, even briefly, to meet these inspiring young people and hear directly from them about their experiences. Your presence and encouragement would mean a great deal to them! Elie would be happy to coordinate a date and format that works best for your schedule.
Professor Ken, thank you once again for your generosity, encouragement, and commitment to advancing liberty. Seeing young Burundians engage with these ideas, challenge one another respectfully, and develop the confidence to defend their convictions is genuinely exciting. We’re grateful to have your support as we continue building this movement.
I look forward to hearing from you and, hopefully, to welcoming you to one of our upcoming mentorship sessions!
With warm regards,
Dr. Mugenzi Edgard
